To keep their hopes of a spot in the ACC Championship Game alive, Louisville football will have to solve NC State this Thursday. The Cardinals can ill-afford to drop a second league divisional game and the Wolfpack need a win to remain in a tie atop the standings with Clemson. The contest will receive the bright lights of prime-time Thursday night, which should play into the hands of reigning Heisman winner Lamar Jackson just nicely. After suffering a 47-21 setback to the Tigers in Week 3, the Cards will need help if they hope to reach the championship game in December.

No. 24 NC State has a head of steam going in the form of a four-game winning streak and a 2-0 start in ACC play, the first time in 11 years the program has been able to accomplish that feat. Ranked for the first time in the Dave Doeren era, the Wolfpack has a chance to prove that it’s worthy of being ranked as it prepares for a primetime showdown against No. 17 Louisville Thursday night at 8 p.m.

Last year, Jackson and Louisville jumped all over the Wolfpack, claiming a convincing 54-13 victory just a week after NC State had pushed eventual national champion Clemson into overtime only to come up short. In that game, Jackson scored four times in the opening 30 minutes.

Since they joined the ACC a few seasons ago, the Louisville Cardinals are 3-0 straight up and 2-1 against the spread in three meetings with the North Carolina State Wolf Pack, including a blowout victory/cover last season. The Cardinals are short road favorites for their fight with a hungry Wolfpack on Thursday night in Raleigh. The Louisville Cardinals will play the NC State Wolfpack in Week 6 of college football schedule on Thursday, start time at 8:00 PM ET, a Carter Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC.

Last week’s predictions got back on track. I called Louisville 56-6 over Murray State, the final score being 55-10. I called 300+ rushing yards and 2+ touchdowns, we got 312 yards and 3 touchdowns. I called for multiple sacks, which we didn’t get, but we did get 10 tackles in the backfield. And my bonus pick of Jawon Pass’ first Louisville TD also came to fruition. While I’m hesitant to hype myself up as any kind of guru (just lucky, I guess), I am cautiously optimistic with my predictions heading into this week’s match-up.

The Cardinals outgained the Racers by the ridiculous margin of 676-80. Quarterback Lamar Jackson, as usual, led the way, throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns while running for 100 yards and another score in just over one half of play. Meanwhile, the Louisville defense held Murray State to just 1.9 yards per play.
