In the first NFC South matchup of the season, the Carolina Panthers welcome familiar rivals, the New Orleans Saints, to Charlotte on Sunday. The Panthers are currently 2-0 after wins over the San Francisco 49ers and the Buffalo Bills. Contrarily, the Saints enter Week 3 looking for their first win of the season after a tough starting schedule of the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots. Neither team made the playoffs in 2016, and this game will be vital in changing that trend for whoever wins.

Carolina’s defense already consisted of several star players including Kuechly, outside linebacker Thomas Davis, defensive tackle Kawann Short and safety Kurt Coleman. But the team didn’t stand pat in the offseason, adding 17-year veteran defensive end Julius Peppers, cornerback Captain Munnerlyn and safety Mike Adams to the mix, bringing a veteran flavor to go along with two young, but improving cornerbacks in James Bradberry and Daryl Worley.

To make matters worse, the Saints will be without starting corners Lattimore (their only bright spot) and Sterline Moore. The Saints have to go with even worse corners than the ones contributing to the worst pass defense in the NFL. He is in a perfect role for them,” Saints coach Sean Payton said. “He is someone that can play on the edge. He has played inside. When you put him together with Charles Johnson, Star Lotulelei, and Short, you start getting a really salty front that plays fresh.
